Good basic point, though these would be better, Blake if you did a bit more planning, especially for the examples you use to illustrate the major point(s); rather than just talking off the top of your head & trying to come up with relevant, helpful examples as you go.

Now i'm playing with free dollars on Poker stars right this moment. I found your marketing code psp15562 and yes it ensure you get some sort of 100% put in bonus once you put in the 1st time.

Meh, it depends. I think rakeback deals online used to be much better pre-2007 when all the sites were scrambling to grab the rush of new players. Everything is so much more dry nowadays. As for live players, I know some pay attention to rake/comp differences more than others. If you have a lot of stationy players, it can also encourage you even more to play few pots and look to win one big pot every so often so that the cap results in a lower proportional tax.
Comment from : Tom Ford

Pedro Santos
Yes and i assume most if not all who play for a living must have a good rakeback deal assuming they arent playing super high stakes where the rake is not that relevant

Tom Ford
It's not quite as low as 1%, but I have seen 5% as the number associated with a consistent + winrate online. (Source: Google "Poker Bank" and winrate ) For original question: One big factor is the rake. It presents a rather large tax in our small pots. Say you take down a $20 heads up pot after a c-bet: $2 is raked from the $10 your opponent bet, so there goes 20% of your profit (assuming a 10% rake). Rake will cause a lot of slightly winning players to break even.

YOU DONT SAT. What im saying is the vast mojority of people arent pros. There are even some who are convinced they are pros but lose money consistently

It's called being a Poker Pro for a living, you need to make money in the long run

Pedro Santos
maybe youre the one who´s stupid because im based on statistics. And i bet big money you´re in the 99% group
Comment from : Pedro Santos

morzloks
are you stupid? who said that only 1% of players make money long term? professional players make a living off a poker.
Comment from : morzloks

badmts
it makes perfect sense, most payers would be happy breaking even as they are rec players who like the regs and the dealers at the casino they play at ,some players want to get a little better than break even and yes there are some that want the DREAM (sponsership,TV,etc.) so if he can make a comfortable (remember this is a highly SUBJECTIVE number) living with no risk of bad beats or running bad and not spending hours a day online or in a casino but helping maybe 70% of the players WHY NOT?

stupid question: if bringing them to good is "pretty easy" ( i assume a good player is a winning player) then why only 1% of players make money long term...
Comment from : Pedro Santos

Michael O'Driscoll
why would anyone want to teach people to become better poker players instead of making a living playing poker?... Doesn't make sense. It's like professional sport tipsters.

Beat your current stakes until you could do it while asleep, then take 20% of your roll and move up with it. Don't be scared to drop back down and build it again at the lower stakes if u need too. Rinse and repeat until dropping back down is -EV for your roll. If you play solid holdem and Plo8? the 08 will have less variance, If you can beat plo8 stick with it, nobody has worked it out yet and it has far more fundonks at every table. They r there for fun so take their money n run.

If everyone is folding to your aces? pretend that more of your Hands are aces, do it with 73 etc I do all the time. If there is lots of raising every hand? limp your aces then reraise the raisers.

RUSH ...As soon as you fold you are off to a new table and constantly in the action. The rush tourneys were pretty cool you could enter the same tourney several times. take more than one seat and cash more than once in the same tourney.. woohoo they were good for graphs

The vast majority of cards we receive are going to be bad? think about trying to win with more of them. 73 from UTG is one of my fave plays. We all start out as nits or go broke fast then we become Tags and start kicking butt, beyond that you develop your own style and on and on it goes changing every few thousand hands.. Best of luck, study the School of Cards videos don't just watch them. watch and think then watch them again and again until you fully grasp the concepts he presents..

just wanted to ask a quick question. was playing 1/2 nlhe maximum. got up to about $250 after a few hours, was one/two/three outered a few times, my stack went down to about 80-90 bucks... basically from then on was card dead and for the next 3 hours got maybe 2-3 hands... got aces and everyone folds, kq suited and flop comes like AJ rag rag and get a whole ranger of betting.. things like that just a terrible run... so my question is.... HOW to deal with begin card dead. (i.e 2 9, 3 5, q 4, 8 3

Yea, that's a good idea. I can go through the changes i made and i how i dealt with down swings. etc. Although i really didn't make much money online, mostly what i got from online was experience. Although my rush graph was pretty sexy.

Could you share you screen names or show a graph of your online success. What stakes you played, where your biggest winrates were etc? Not that I don't believe you, I just think it would be interesting.

you are not missing much right now. Games are tough, and it is extremely hard to find a soft game. And the difficulty of depositing ahs made everybody a little nitty.

Difference between bad/good/very good. Not sure the reason, but when I play ploh8, i am playing A+ to B game 95% of the time. I do play bad, but it is rare. Holdem I can play from an A+ to a D- game at any time for no good reason. There are days when I am reading everybody's hands, bluffing at perfect time, making giant laydows (you get the idea) Then the next day I play like a 2-4 cent idiot. Holdem is a feel game for me and I think I should play at a higher level more than I do. Ideas?

Yea you feel it out. Devote 80% of your time to 50nl and 20% to like 100nl. Once you see you can beat it slowly make the transition. it's the safest way to move up in stakes.
Comment from : SchoolofCards

kochampion7
How do I know when to up my stakes? I make a decent living playing at .25/.5, but I rarely lose and I feel like I know pretty well how to exploit the players I play with. I've been debating for a while going up, is it a sort of trial and error run that I should go for in the upper stakes?
